Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Who is U6 for?
A. CYSA’s U6 program is for children ages 4-6 years old.
Q. Who coaches U6?
A. U6 does not function without parent cooperation. NO EXPERIENCE is necessary to coach U6, as long as you have a willingness to help you can coach. The U6 Coordinator plans out a practice schedule to have each session focusing on one or two drills. There will always be an experienced U6 coach on hand if any questions or concerns arise during practice. We are all in this together and we will make sure you have everything you need to make sure you and the kids have a great time playing soccer.
Parents aren’t the only ones who can help. If you can’t but your child’s grandparent, uncle, aunt, cousin, older sibling, next-door neighbor is willing contact U6’s coordinator with their information.
Q. What do I need to coach U6?
A. All equipment required to coach U6 is provided by CYSA, however, all coaches do need a simple background clearance and to take online concussion and designated reporter training. All Head and Assistant Coaches MUST have their clearances and training certificates on-file with CYSA before interacting with the players.
Q. What does my child need to play U6 soccer?
A. Soccer cleats, socks, and shinguards. A size-3 soccer ball is optional, but encouraged to be able to practice at home. For Fall 2020 each registered U6 player will receive a team-colored Catty Soccer uniform shirt sponsored by Hartzell’s Pharmacy. The uniform shirt should be worn at every practice.
Dick’s Sporting Goods usually offers a soccer bundle in late summer that includes a ball cleats and shinguards for a discounted price.
Q. Where does U6 play?
A. U6 plays at the North Catasauqua Park. Seasons usually run 6 to 8 weeks, and practices run an hour twice a week. Practices start with a 3-5 minute group warm-up with the U6 Coordinator who will go over the skill each team will be working on for that practice. The teams then break up back to their designated field, as stated in the game schedule handed out at the Parent Meeting, to play games and run drills designed to focus on the specific drill. The final 30 minutes is a scrimmage against another U6 team. Scrimmages are 3 v 3 and refereed by the coaches.
Q. Are there fundraisers?
A. CYSA holds a fundraiser in the Fall season. There is a buy out option that can be selected during registration. There is no formal fundraiser in the Spring.
You pay in full for the fundraiser during registration and receive the item to sell early in the Fall season. You sell the item for the amount specified and keep the money collected.
